The Chau Son Monastery is a charming abbey which is located in the Nho Quan district in the countryside of Ninh Binh province.
Surrounded by the mountain, the Chau Son Monastery is the country's unique Cistercian abbey, located in the North and Centre. Erected in 1939, the Chau Son Monastery (the Pearl Mountain) originated from the Phuoc Son Monastery (the mountain of Happiness) which was founded by the priest Henri Denis Bien Duc Thuan in 1949 in Phuoc Son, Quang Tri province.
Atypical of its kind, the Chau Son Monastery is distinguished by a style of Gothic architecture. It is the red brick facades outside that make it charming, making it warmer and more pleasant at first sight. Inside, its 21m high dome testifies to an impressive sculptural richness.
In addition to its splendour, the surrounding setting of the monastery, where you can find the calmness, accompanying by some sounds of birds, gives you a feeling of eternal peace. On your arrival in Ninh Binh, one or two hours in the Chau Son Monastery are a very pleasant stop, combining nature and history.
